Scripture & A Snapshot {Week 12}

We're going to try something a little new with the link-ups from here on out.
This will now be a blog hop link up, which simply means that if you'd like to have the exact same thumbnails and ability for people to link up at your site, then just grab the code below and place it in your own Scripture & a Snapshot post!

I must be honest with you - I've been toying with this idea for a couple weeks and I finally realized that what was holding me back from doing it was my own selfish and sinful nature. Simply put: I wanted all the traffic for myself. Yikes!

That is not what this challenge is all about. It's not about me, or increasing traffic to my site, or gaining more followers. It's about sharing the Word of God and spreading it from blog to blog, person to person.

I had originally wanted to focus my December Scripture & a Snapshot posts around the Christmas story.
But as the weeks go by I find myself dealing with other issues - like selfishness. And I'm guessing I'm not the only one struggling with this right now. Too often, and especially around Christmas, I focus on what I want. And I should be focusing on Christ and what He wants. I think it's safe to say that He would much prefer my Christmas list to be that of giving and not receiving.

So, I'm going to challenge you - and myself - to do one act of giving this month.
You could sort through your closets and donate unused coats, hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters, blankets, etc to a homeless shelter.  You could invite someone over who is alone on Christmas to enjoy a meal and companionship with you and your family.

Feel free to share your ideas or plans in the comments!

  1. I'm a little confused as to what this is exactly? Not sure how to do it. Maybe I will go check out that link to see if it can help me ;-) Yeah, we are giving far more this year than ever. With three close families out of work, we are being stretched in what we will be doing to help them.

  2. Katie this is so timely. I had my scripture and a snapshot picture and scripture verse ready for this week over a week ago - my subject is covetness and materialism which most of us struggle with too especially at this time of year.

Christmastime in our household is a time of giving to those on the mission field.

  3. I added your code Katie to my post. For me this will be good as I keep forgetting to come back over later in the week to see who else has joined in plus I always tweet the scripture and a snapshot post on my twitter gardening account and a few have even commented. If they saw others on the linky while at my site they might just click another link or two aswell.

Thankyou so much for giving us the opportunity to share God's word with so many.

  7. Katie, thank you so much. I have put the linky on my blog. I constantly struggle to keep my life in godly priorities too...so easy to become distracted from the One Thing that is Above All!

  16. Thank you for sharing your heart! That sneaky selfishness seems to creep into my life just. about. everywhere. Grrrrr. As I've been reading the story of Jesus' coming in the gospels this week, I'm struck over and over again at the willing, obedient, UNSELFISH servants' hearts of Mary and Joseph.

  19. Oh, how I love that shot! I love shots from behind, especially of kiddos - their little legs are so cute, and you can just see them toddling around. What a great reminder to follow His ways!!

  20. Wonderful post Katie!

What you imagined would be the worst thing ever, happened to my neighbors. Their daughter died in utero just before being born. It's devastatingly sad. :(

  21. Katie, your teachable spirit is lovely. I am content to just link up here, but thank you for the blessing and opportunity. I think we can all identify with the problem of our selfish ways.

  25. I applaud you for realizing and admitting to your struggle (although, you didn't have to admit it to us! :) ) Isn't it funny how such "little" things can actually cause much larger problems if they aren't quickly nipped in the bud??

Anyway - this is a beautiful picture to go with a very important verse. I love the perspective and the colors.

Thanks for the reminder to look at myself and see what selfish things I'm holding on to.
