I'm not even going to pretend that I can begin to fully understand this verse.
So, I'm turning to my study Bible for help...
The notes on this verse suggest that there is a 3-part meaning:
1. We should remember God's faithfulness, just as salt was used in Old Testament sacrifices to recall God's covenant.
2. We should make a difference in the flavor of the world, much as salt changes and enhances the flavor of food.
3. We should counteract the moral decay of our society, as salt preserves food from decay.
All of these points have the same basic theme: Our lives should be lived for God and He should be reflected in us, so that those we encounter feel His presence and love and are left changed for the better.
When we stop remembering, enhancing, and preserving, we are rendered useless.

Such a great reminder! Remembering, enhancing, preserving...I like that. And I really like the texture contrast between the salt and the wood in the photo.

A good lesson. Thanks for sharing the photo and the information.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the notes, Katie. That's a powerful verse full of warning!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great photo!
I love the roughness of the grains of salt against the well used table.
blessings..Trish
So good!! mmmm-hmmm - love this scripture and you've presented so perfectly, Katie :)
ReplyDeleteKatie - I'm happy to have found your blog. I'm joining Scripture and a Snapshot for the first time today.
ReplyDeleteThe scripture you chose today is a great reminder that we must keep our zest for the Lord and sharing His good news with others.
Hi Katie,
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time linking up with Scripture and a Snapshot -- thanks for having me. Your photographs are absolutely beautiful -- what a gift you have!
I love this verse.. and the study info.. Thank you for hosting ec hweek... and for taking my brain and heart a little farther. God blessed me when you started this link up!
ReplyDeleteGreat reminder and thanks for the notes. I never really understood that verse. Beautiful shot!
ReplyDeleteI love this! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely lovely! It's a challenge verse and I'm impressed that you were able to capture it with your lens!
ReplyDeleteI love your photo and the message along with it! When I think of this verse, I always think of the time I made bread and forgot the salt. I had no idea it would affect the taste so much, but I had to throw away all 6 loaves because it tasted so bad. Imagine what God will want to do with us ("spit us out", I think it says, right?) if we aren't salt for Him.
ReplyDeleteFantastic capture Katie along with such a great verse of scripture. We are just empty vessels without that seasoning.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful lesson and incredible macro. Wow.
ReplyDeletewhat beautiful words and a great macro
ReplyDeleteWhat a great reminder to be salt to the world! Love your photo, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you for not only sharing the Scripture, but giving us insight. I always need to be reminded that people should see God in me in all that I do.
ReplyDeleteGreat verse - great photo!
ReplyDeleteGreat as always!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photo and reminder.
ReplyDeleteAgain, nice to see all the participants here. I'll keep in mind for next week. And lovely shot and verse.
ReplyDeleteMy first time here and what an AMAZING idea! I may have to participate next time. . .
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful pairing!! I love the angle of your photo and the verse... WOW!!! Such a beautiful reminder! :)
ReplyDeleteAmen! Love this!! This was on my "S&S to-do list"... I'm going to have to be a bit more creative since you got to it first! lol
ReplyDeleteAnd it is so true - when we stop flavoring our world and become "plain" like everyone else, we stop being useful - and can't impart Jesus anymore.
Amen to the verse and to your mini Bible study. I think you summed it up well. :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Christine
Girl....this blog hop was such a God-send to me this weekend!!!!!!!!!!! I really needed to dwell on the truths in HIS word and this did it for me. Thank you!! I love this verse and of course you did a fine job capturing it through your photo. We can't season the world if we are hiding under a bushel!
