In this verse, Paul was speaking to the Galatians about the Law of Moses (specifically about circumcision) and how it was no longer necessary - that it was a temporary set of rules intended to keep Israel safe until Christ came.
But I think we can also apply this verse, in a different way, to us today: That we should not let our modern day idols of facebook, texting, blogging, etc. keep up from experiencing a life full of Christ! We should not be slaves to our jobs or success. We should not tithe or do good works simply for the recognition. We should put God first, love our family and love our neighbor.
ETA: Wow, a lot of you are curious how I shot this photo! It's pretty simple: I sat on a swing at a playground, leaned back so both chains were in the frame, focused on my hand and shot! I'm pretty sure my camera was set to aperture priority, because I just didn't feel like messing with manual that day. ;) And I used my kit lens - because I think kit lenses can most definitely make beautiful shots! Then I ran PW's Seventies action on it.

Want to join in this challenge?
Here's how to participate:
1. Select a scripture.
My hope is that each week you will search your Bible and select a verse that has meaning for you.
Here's a link to a good Bible verse search engine.
2. Add a photo to it.
I hope that you will chose a photo that goes with your chosen scripture, and not just throw these two elements together. The photo can be from your archives or a new shot. Please only use your own photos. You can have the scripture on your photo, below it, make a collage - however you want, as long as the two elements are together!
3. Put the Scripture & a Snapshot button in your post.
You won't be deleted or banned if you don't. It just helps spread the word...and the Word. ;)
It also helps visitors from the blog hop quickly identify your Scripture & a Snapshot post.
4. Come back here and link up your post.
Please link directly to your Scripture & A Snapshot post, not the home page of your blog.
OMG!!! I LOOOOVE THE PHOTO! (totally inspired to do one like it!WOW!!)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Katie! =)
ReplyDeletewhat a great angle! i'm going to have to try this!
ReplyDeleteThe photo is great...the scripture and your comments much needed. Thank you Katie.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Great verse, too!
ReplyDeleteI love the angle of this photo. Must try this!
ReplyDeleteGreat pairing of "Scripture and a Snapshot" Katie!!! I too LOVE the angle on this photo!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!!!
Love the perspective on your shot. And what a great message!
ReplyDeleteWell said. We are studying Galatians in the women's Bible study I attend, and I value your applications of the verse.
ReplyDeleteThe perspective in the photograph beautifully illustrates the verse.
Your message today was perfect for me since I had a rough week last week! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cool shot! How did you do it? And love that scripture!
ReplyDeleteI linked up for the first time today :-)
Love the perspective on this shot, and it goes so well with the scripture.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite verses. I have it in my blog header. I love your photo!
ReplyDeleteI needed to hear this verse today. I think you chose a perfect picture to accompany it, as it is indeed the feeling of freedom when one swings.
ReplyDeleteAmen, it was for freedom that Christ Set us free. It must make God so sad to see His people tangled up again in idols of their own choosing.
ReplyDeleteLove your picture. It's so free looking! Wonderful edit too, so timeless looking.
yes do tell what settings/ lens you used, self timer?
ReplyDeleteLove it and this verse is such a strong one.
I love being on a swing and closing my eyes and being so free.
ReplyDeleteThose verses have been on my mind alot this week - I felt so guilty about not replying to so many blog posts on my blog hence my scripture and a snapshot post this week. I hope others will understand if I don't reply so often - as I really don't want my internet activities to become a yoke and a burden.
Christ gives us so much to enjoy and the swing reminds me that one day we will know true freedom to soar above it all .
ReplyDeleteLove it! (and I finally joined in!)
ReplyDeleteThis is SO true, Katie...in all things. Very nice photo :)
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said. And your photo is gorgeous! We are free indeed!
ReplyDeleteAmen!! Wonderful Katie!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the perspective and the choice of verse you paired it with.
I've been learning over the last couple of years exactly what it means that Jesus died to set us free from EVERY bondage -- when He said "it is finished" he not only completely took my place and paid my sin-debt, but he broke every bondage Satan had on me -- so that I can be completely free in Him! What a blessing!! Now, to trust and rest in Him!! That's the key!!
I absolutely love the scripture and the photo is perfect with it! What version is that verse out of? Love it! Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful photo, and a beautiful reading to go with it. I agree, it's important that we not let the outside world interfere with us enjoying our relationship with Christ! Though challenging, I try to turn off the computer at least a few nights a week and just slow down a bit.
ReplyDeleteKatie, I'm going to have to try a shot like that. What a great angle and composition. I'm a fan of my kit lens, too. I like the parallel between the chains of your photo and of the verse.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Christine
Katie!! I love this shot! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteSo true and a reminder to not be slaves to the idols of today just to keep up with the 'jones' so to speak. And creative shot!!
ReplyDeleteWow, Katie! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading in Galatians a lot lately - good stuff! ;)
You are so right - we let our modern day idols take over our lives and we must take it back and not be a slave to them! Love this photo!
ReplyDeleteHi Katie,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! This is my first time to your site and I wanted to participate in your photo challenge. I have a photography blog and I often combine scripture with my photos. However, I linked the wrong photo to your list and now I can't delete it to place the correct one. It is the photo of the Robin red breast. I am so disappointed. Is there any way to repost the correct one? Thanks. I am now a follower of your blog. I invite you to follow mine as well.
I also have a devotional writing blog where I write devotions and combine my photography as well. Both urls are http://judysphotogallery.blogspot.com and http://virtuouswomanministry.blogspot.com.
P.S. I finally did place your button in the correct post. Better luck next time I suppose.
Blessings,
Judy
I love the perspective on this photo. The verse is awesome too! I'm hoping to link up again on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! Found you on another person's blog!
